Following the lecture on NC Gullah history by PhD. Candidate, Tyanna West, join us outside at USCT Sculptural Park for an evening of stories led by the NC Association of Black Storytellers.

 

About Pinkie Strother

In North Carolina, Pinkie has exhibited for several venues including the Cameron Art Museum and the North Carolina Museum of History where she often gives lectures, as well as workshops. Pinkie was a board member and president of the Fuquay-Varina Arts Council. She is currently a member of the National Association of Black Storytellers, International Omi Association, and the Cultural Arts Society of Fuquay-Varina. Pinkie was awarded the 2016 International Omi Art Residency for her creation of Childhood Memories.

 

About Joyce Greer

Joyce Grear is a native of Wilmington who uses storytelling to teach and to build community.  She has toured the U.S. since 1987 bringing to life many African American heroines whose stories she feels inspired to share.  Her research into Evans dates to the dedication of the Bottle House that honors Minnie Evans’ time at Airlie Gardens.  Joyce is the “griot” of Wilmington, teaching all ages through workshops, plays, and non-profit programs throughout North Carolina.
