Pastel Painting II

Designed as the follow-up class for Pastel Painting I, learn more techniques and expand your use of pastels as a medium through various still lives, figures, interiors, skies, or whatever you wish to create! Students will explore using different brands of pastels and papers.

Recommendations for the beginner pastelist: Hard pastels - NuPastel brand is easily accessible online and in some stores (Jerry’s Artarama in Raleigh). Medium pastels- Rembrandt, Holbein, and Richeson. Soft pastels- Blue Earth, Terry Ludwig, Unison, and Sennelier.

Papers:
Smooth Surface: Pastelmat (comes in pads or single sheets and many colors). Canson: some come smooth but some come with a pressed pattern (your choice)
Sanded Surface: UART, comes in 2 colors only, tan or black BUT comes in many grits, the higher the number #(800) the less gritty--- (#320 the most gritty). LUX archival only comes in white. Pastel Premier

Bring charcoal pencils, and paper for exercises as well as your finished painting. Bring white tape. Optional: value chart or color wheel.
