Gel Print Collage/Mixed Media – full, please call to join waitlist

Gel printing offers a fun process of exploring abstract printmaking that results in papers perfect for any mixed media or collage project. This two day intensive starts with basic fundamentals of gel printing, along with stencils, design techniques and color combos. Students will create an array of collage studies with compositional insights and other collage materials to create an array of evocative, colorful mixed media studies. All levels welcome.

Paint Like the Masters: Joaquin Sorolla

Like the Impressionists, and Postimpressionists, Sorolla was a master of light. We can see his keen sense of place, the energy and emotional quality of color, especially coastal themes, and embrace them into our own painting practice. Let’s explore loose, Impressionistic techniques in this one-day intensive. All painting mediums welcome, instructor will demo in acrylic and watercolor. Seasoned beginners to intermediate.

Liminal Space

Liminal space, the space from where you have been to where you are headed, an area that can be, but is not always, occupied. Unsettling, sometimes spooky, liminal space exists as that in-between space passed thru going from here to there. We will explore its meaning and possible ways to illustrate that meaning in photography. Each participant will present a single liminal space with up to five photographs.

Elements and Principles in Pairs

A great way to learn Elements and Principles of Art is through exercises that pair: Line and Movement, Shape and Balance, Form and Unity, Color and Contrast, Value and Emphasis, Texture and Pattern, & Space and Proportion. Using provided accordion folding books, you may create a personal resource to keep at hand for your future art work. Activities include drawing, painting, collage, and simple etching.

The Handmade Artist Book

Working with ceramic handbuilding skills, students will create a cold finish ceramic book cover to use as their artist book. Work with a variety of papers to create signatures; you will learn ways to create interest and embellish your signatures with a variety of mixed media art supplies.

"Art needs friends, with our bodies against the wind and our hands cupped around the flame..." -Fredrik Backman. Do you find yourself in a rut with a particular painting, drawing, sculpture or photograph? Or perhaps do you have lingering questions about your art practice in general? Share your frustrations and goals. Bring in three examples of your work and you will receive creative ways to move your practice forward. We will also be doing some journaling. Students will create one or two handmade books using plaster and compounds with mica windows and natural dye finishes. Complete your book filled with lots of interesting papers and bind using the Coptic binding stitch.

Deep Six – Tell A Story with Images

In the first session participants will explore story telling with images. The story can be as simple as sharing an item: car, a house. A process: making an omelet, planting a seed or flower. Or of an experience, going for a walk, getting a tattoo, eating a favorite treat. Participants will decide on their story, photograph it, then distill it down to six, or fewer, images… the Deep Six, the most expressive photographs that depict the essence of the story.

Creative Connection with Your Spirit Guide

Through guided meditation and visualization led by a practiced instructor, students will work to connect with their Spirit Guides. They will then draw with graphite or colored pencil or paint your guide. This is meant to be a fun class but meaningful and eye-opening class. Your artwork will connect you more to this higher part of yourself and align you with the universe. No art experience necessary.
