Paolo André Gualdi

Thursday, December 5, 6:30 PM
CAM/CFJS Members: $17, Non-members: $25, Students with valid ID: $12

Where jazz meets classical is Paolo André Gualdi who says “I always like to joke about the fact that, as a musician, I always felt a little bit like ‘Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde’.” In the last three decades Gualdi has kept classical and jazz music as separate entities in his day-to-day activity as a performer. Recently he finally had an opportunity to blend those two elements into a very exciting project which this concert expands upon. Following the steps of the great Jacques Loussier, George Cables and others, Gualdi put together a program of works that represent the crossover between the classical and jazz genres. From Bach to Debussy, he will present jazz “reinterpretation” of famous classical compositions, with the invaluable assistance of Natalie Boeyink on bass, Jon Hill on drums, and Danijela Žeželj-Gualdi on violin. A very unique program, not to be missed! Paolo Gualdi started playing the piano when he was five years old and through his conservatory studies he was diligently focused on scales, etudes, classical works, and nothing else. Until… he was 14 and watched Clint Eastwood’s “Bird,” a biopic about the legendary jazz saxophonist Charlie Parker. It was love at first sight! Jazz has since been a very powerful force in his musical life.
