Join us for an afternoon coffeehouse gathering in honor of Philip Gerard’s book release: Words and Music: An Album of a Life in Words and Song. Enjoy readings from Gerard’s memoir while listening to the acoustic sounds of Whiskey Creek Revival.

 

Philip Gerard was a historian, professor of creative writing at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, and the author of 17 books, including Cape Fear Rising. His essay collection, The Patron Saint of Dreams, was awarded the 2012 North American Gold Medal for Essay and Creative Nonfiction by the Independent Publisher (“Ippy”). Gerard has written eleven documentary television scripts, scores of radio essays, several magazine series, and an award-winning radio drama. In 2019, he received the North Carolina Award for Literature, the state’s highest civilian honor.

 

Whiskey Creek plays an eclectic set of tunes inspired by the traditions of bluegrass, Americana, old-time, Celtic, and country. The band features Dargan Frierson, Jeff Reid, Rick Olse,n and Bill Bolduc.
