Drawing Inspired by Nature – Creating a Fall Botanical Sketchbook

Capture unique shapes, textures and subtle color shifts that nature brings us while improving your drawing skills and expanding your botanical knowledge. Using nature as our subject, create a series of fall inspired drawings, all captured in your botanical sketchbook. Class time will be spent focusing on unique visual characteristics of individual plants. Students will learn different techniques to enhance drawings and add color. Attention will be given to composition and new ways to capture your subject.

Mix-media Sketchbook, apx. size: 9”x12”, min. 98 lb paper should be only slightly textured or medium grain (examples: Canson XL Mix Media 98lb, Strathmore mixed media 400 series or Stillman & Birn Beta Series Mixed Media soft covered sketchbook-cold press surface)
Drawing pencils: H, HB, 2B, 4B
Kneaded eraser (Faber-Castell brand)
White eraser
Permanent Fine point marker i.e. Sakura Pigma Micron pen 01 or 02 (optional)
Proportional divider
Additional supplies to add color will be discussed at first class
