Open Studio is a creative space where artists of all levels can find a space to continue to work, experiment, and develop their skills in a small group setting with support from a teaching artist. Like a co-op work space, bring in a project of your choice! Receive guidance, critique and inspiration in a small group setting at CAM. Attend one or more session. If you want to learn the basics of painting and color, this class is for you! Overview of brushes and different acrylic paints will be introduced, in addition color mixing and color theory.
Techniques for adding texture using gel medium and experimentation with various tools other than brushes will be explored. Beginning with a simple apple and moving on to a landscape using overlaying colors to create a different type of texture.
Good quality acrylic paints, Liquitex or Golden. NO Basics Acrylic paint please. Acrylic painting brushes, different sizes. Small canvases, beginning with 10”x12”. No canvas boards please.

A continuation of Beginner Pottery, we will continue to focus on hand building techniques, including pinch, coil, and slab building. You will learn the basic methods for building with clay, embellishing the surface, and understanding the characteristics of different glazes as well as wheel instruction. Instruction is provided during the weekly class session, and studio time is available on selected days at the Museum School.
Designed for the experienced oil painter, this class will explore how variety of color, value, shape , and edges can add interest - or create chaos - in your
paintings. Finding the balance in painting with enough variety to be interesting - and enough unity to hold together - is critical to good design. The role
of these visual elements and principles in composition will be explored in slide presentations and lots of individual attention. Students will work from still life and their photos .
Basic set of colors in preferred medium: including Titanium White, Cad Yellow Medium, Cadmium Red Medium, Quinacridone Magenta, Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean, Burnt Umber.
Variety of flat style (wash) brushes and filberts in 1/4, 1/2 and 1" widths
Preferred palette pad or mixing tray for watercolor

This class introduces you to the concepts of tone and value. These colors can be used to create depth, dimension, and contrast. Understanding the grayscale is essential for mastering light and shadow. The scale will be created by mixing various shades from white and black. Creating smooth transitions.. The techniques you will learn; shading and blending, layering colors, and dry brush.Your finished painting will be from O’Keefe’s “Morning Glory with Black”.

Quality acrylic paints. NO Basics acrylic paint please. A variety of sizes of acrylic painting brushes. 16”x20” canvas or smaller but larger than 8x10. Instructor will supply mixed media paper to create your grayscale.

Let's explore how both shadow and reflections tell a story in your paintings.
Using dramatic lighting, we will explore how "Less is More", and how shapes can tell the whole story in your painting without a lot of detail! Come have fun and use your imagination differently while painting.
