Do you enjoy scary stories? Celebrate this Halloween season by submitting your own spooky short story or poem to CAM and see it in print and read aloud. All approved entries will be printed in the resulting book Night at the Haunted Art Museum: Spooky Stories from the CAM Community. Enter the drawing to be selected and read loud during our October Family Saturday on Saturday, October 24 and our virtual reading on Friday, October 30.
Youth and adults ages 8 and up can submit a short story or poem with a word count of 30-2,300 words. Intended to be read by audiences ages 8-12. Non-refundable entry fee of $15 required upon submission. Please follow writing guidelines when submitting a story or poem – entries that do not follow guidelines will not be published in the book nor will they qualify to be read at the October Family Saturday and Virtual Reading.
Must be 30-2,300 words, short story or poem. Can include personal or fictional ghost stories, monster stories, or other horror-themed stories. Must remain appropriate for children ages 8-12. All ages 8+ (youth and adults) welcome to submit their stories. All approved stories will be included in a printed book and given to all entrants. Must be an original work.
Can NOT contain: Violence, blood, sexual situations, or gore. No weapons (knives, firearms, etc.). No profanity. If you have any questions on whether your story or poem is deemed appropriate before submission, please contact email@example.com.
CAN include: Supernatural elements (ghosts, monsters, cryptids, etc.), suspense, creepy themes. Think classic Goosebumps or Alfred Hitchcock – smart, suspenseful, and creepy. This is intended to be read by children and their parents, please keep it PG.
Submissions that fail to follow guidelines will not be read at the Virtual Story Reading or published in the book. Submission fee is non-refundable. Not all approved stories are guaranteed to be read at the Virtual Story Reading but are guaranteed to be published in the book. All approved entrants will be given a copy of the resulting book.
