Illumination 2021 Opens for Artists

Wednesday, 6/2/2021
10:00AM-5:00PM
Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington, NC, is Calling for Submissions for “Illumination 2021” – Deadline August 20, 2021
Illumination 2021

Art helps us to process collective trauma and find hope – and light – in darkness. Now, over a year into the pandemic, we see our world in a new light. We have found fresh imagination. There are scars, and, for some, there is significant loss. Yet, we look to the next day with an acquired resilience. This year, the seventh for this exhibition, artists are encouraged to explore the theme of rebirth and renewal. How do you as an artist view life now? How do you view your work? What have you learned? Have you or your work shifted with a sense of rediscovery – of new topics, new materials, new styles?
In your work, through content, style, and choice of material, show us what this concept of rebirth and renewal means to you.
$2,500 in Cash Prizes
1st Place: $1,500; 2nd Place: $750; 3rd Place: $250
Deadline for submission is Friday, August 20, 2021 at noon.

Gather in the Pandemic Story Quilt Exhibition for a morning of stitching and reflection. As you take stock on the past year, did you find abilities and strengths in yourself and others? With fabric, needle and thread, Bobbi Fitzsimmons will help you create your own fabric square that captures your thoughts about resilience through 2020 and hopes for things ahead. Sashiko is a Japanese stitching technique that is as much about beauty as it is about reinforcement and mending something that is still valued. All ages are welcome, but we ask that young children have parental assistance.
