The New Hanover County Arboretum is one of the of the best gardens in the Wilmington area, and it is open to the public all year. Maintained by master gardeners, the Arboretum showcases the native plants of our region as well as many others. Any digital device may be used for this workshop, smart phones, tablets or DSLRs. If using a DSLR it is suggested that the participant bring an array of lenses, from wide to telephoto.

Don't miss Live@CAM: Josh Youse at CAM Cafe. Josh Youse is an instrumental musician based out of Wilmington, NC. He grew up in rural Pennsylvania, the son of a radio DJ who instilled in Josh a deep love for music. A self-taught guitarist, his musical stylings evolved from listening to classic vinyl records and learning to improvise melodies. He initially started out playing bass guitar and often incorporates several other percussive instruments into his performances. Josh’s actual degree is in Adventure Education Leadership and Wilderness Therapy and his original songs are often inspired by his extensive outdoor adventures and travels. Call 910-777-2363 to make reservations for dinner in the courtyard while Josh plays.

Join writer and musician Philip Gerard as he plays live 6 and 12-string solo guitar in Elizabeth Bradford: A House of One Room. Gerard is the author of numerous books of fiction and nonfiction, including Cape Fear Rising, The Last Battleground: The Civil War Comes to North Carolina, and Down the Wild Cape Fear. An avid musician, Gerard teaches creative writing at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Henry Ossawa Tanner (1859-1937, American) was a deeply spiritual artist, and that spirituality came out in serene landscapes. His meditative scenes take traditional, Biblical stories and imbues them with his distinctively quiet spirit. We'll explore how he uses the genre of landscape to communicate his distinctive spriituality.

Inspired by the Cameron Art Museum's current exhibitions, ‘Safe Places: Robert Johnson’ and ‘Elizabeth Bradford: A House of One Room’, and the beautiful natural environment found in Airlie Gardens, we enjoy story time, a fun science lesson from the Airlie Gardens educators, and a simple art project based on the science lesson! Art Explorers is geared towards infants, toddler and preschoolers, but big brothers and sisters are welcome to join, learn and create art with us.

You can paint them too! Enjoy a relaxing 2-hour painting class while you sip on a delicious beverage. Grab a drink from the CAM Cafe and join Amy Gibson in the Pancoe! She will show you how to paint a colorful mimosa using oil paint. You will go over color mixing, applying paint, and how to achieve realistic looking glass. Photo to work from is provided.

Join Music Bird Studios for a lively, outdoor interactive family hour! Learn about our current nature-themed exhibitions though music, movement and art. Celebrate creativity in brand new ways. Our focus will be water! Experiment with the sound of water in various metal bowls, and go on a musical boat trip down a peaceful river

Perry is a multi-instrumentalist specializing in guitar, hand percussion, oud, mandolin, Native American flute, key boards and vocals. Perry accompanies dance classes at UNCW, facilitates drumming programs for special populations, and teaches lessons from his studio at the Art Works. He also plays regularly with Cosmic Groove Lizards, Axiom, Zion, Sea Pans and Narayani.

Join Wilmington gallerist Amy Grant for a tour of the Elizabeth Bradford exhibition. Amy is a classically-trained, visual artist and the owner of Art in Bloom Gallery. She is an active member of the Arts Council of Wilmington and New Hanover County; a board member of DREAMS Center for Arts Education; and a board member of the Historic Thalian Hall Center for the Performing Arts. Prior to moving to Wilmington, NC, she worked as a scientist in the Philadelphia area and traveled internationally and nationally taking the opportunity to explore art. She enjoys promoting local art via her gallery, visiting museums, artists' studios and local galleries wherever she travels, and appreciates the originality of the art and artists in Wilmington, NC.

Odilon Redon (1840 - 1916, France) sought meaning and melancholy in his own imaginative landscapes. These scenes borrowed from mythology, religion, and his visions manifested themselves in distinctively quiet dreamscapes. We'll explore how he takes a genre that usually asks you to look out at the world, and, instead, uses it to capture his own, quiet imagination.

Jackie Evans is a singer, pianist, actor and vocal instructor from the Hudson Valley region of New York. She was most recently seen onboard Holland America Cruise Line's dueling pianos venue, "Billboard Onboard". Her style is a mix of soul/jazz/pop and is inspired by artists such as Stevie Wonder, Sara Bareilles, and Billy Joel.
