The Smoky Dunes are a local musical duo from right here in Wilmington, NC. While they are both partial to their Martin guitars, they've been known to pick up a mandolin and a banjo. Whether it's on the porch or at a venue around town, The Smoky Dunes provide an eclectic set of music not often heard around Wilmington

Virtual Class: Rock, Paper Stitches
Saturday, 3/13/2021
10:00AM-11:00AM
Virtual Class: Rock, Paper Stitches: Joomchi and Embroidery with Jan Wutkowski
'Rock' two slow-process crafts in one unique class! Day 1 will concentrate on learning an ancient Korean paper craft to create a 'felted' paper called joomchi. Joomchi utilizes layers of thin hanji papers that, through agitation and manipulation, create a sturdy piece that can be used alone or in other artistic endeavors. One such endeavor will be achieved on Day 2. Taking the previous day's joomchi pieces, you'll use simple hand stitches for mark making, to add found objects, or to stitch several joomchi together for a larger, dramatic piece of finished paper art. (This is not a paper making class.)

IN PERSON: Felted Landscapes
Saturday, 3/13/2021
10:00AM-1:00PM
Instructor: September Krueger
Inspired by Elizabeth Bradford, we will take a look at the beauty of the coastal landscape where we live. We will use soft, colored wool roving to "paint" an image of your own design. With just warm water and lots of squishing, you will take wispy strands of wool and make an image you can hang on the wall. Wet felting even makes a finished piece of cloth that can be embellished with stitching, or transformed into a usable object. A kit will be provided with the materials necessary for felting a an image from your 8.5 x 11' photograph. We will discuss image selection and go through the basic felting technique. We will also discuss options for hanging.
