Bill learned to play the guitar at the age of seven and began playing professionally at the age of twelve. After high school Bill studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and later received a music degree from the University of Denver. Bill has the ability to cross between genres with ease and brings with him an extensive background in the music industry. Over his career he has played with numerous rock, country, funk and jazz bands in Denver and Wilmington. Bill also owned and operated Kerr/Macy Music Group, one of Denver’s top recording studios, during the 90’s. His primary influences include Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour, Al Di Meola, John Scofield and Allan Holdsworth.

Join the Black On Black Project at the Cameron Art Museum for a special screening of the new short film The Front Lines, which looks at some of the history of Wilmington, N.C. Through poetry and dance, the film begins to unpack the 1865 Battle of Forks Road, the 1898 massacre, and the 1971 Wilmington Ten case.
This intimate screening will take place inside CAM’s reception hall and features a Q&A with Devin Kelly, public historian for the CAM’s United States Colored Troops sculpture project, poet Johnny Lee Chapman, III, and Executive Producer Michael S. Williams. The discussion during this event will focus on the impact of the USCT in Wilmington and beyond.

Virginia Wright-Frierson’s exhibition The Lived-In Body, Celebrating Women Over 65 is a stunning testimony to the beauty of the bodies of women. This writing class, which will be held in the gallery with Wright-Frierson’ss work, will encourage writers of all ages to be present and write about the strength, beauty, and resiliency of their bodies, as well as the distinctive stories each body tells. Writers will participate in guided meditation, gentle stretching, and affirmative, poetic, and narrative writing in a supportive environment. Painting in the Outdoors with Todd Carignan

This class is about painting on location and capturing what you can in one sitting. Each class will meet in a different location (revealed the day before through email), where the instructor will talk his way through a brief demo, then help you paint from life for the rest of the time. Pumpkin spice coffee, ghosts, pumpkin spice doughnuts, goblins, pumpkin spice pizza, and tombstones, fall is a great time to walk through Oakdale Cemetery. This is another year round local destination. A wonderful place for reflection, history and photography. Any digital device may be used for this workshop, smart phones, tablets or DSLRs. If using a DSLR is it is suggested that the participant bring an array of lenses, from wide to telephoto. A macro is always fun if you have one. Alan will be available with assistance and technical advice. Please have a mask, remember social distancing and dress for the weather. Elizabeth Vigee-Lebrun (1755-1842) was one of the most renowned portrait painters of Paris in the 1780s, including being the personal portrait painter of the queen of France, Marie Antoinette. Then the French Revolution sent France--and Elizabeth's life--into turmoil, but that was only the beginning of a 50-year, international art adventure. In this class we'll look closely at what made her portraits so distinctive, and what made her one of the most sought-after portraitists of her time.

Don't miss Live@CAM: Josh Youse at CAM Cafe. Josh Youse is an instrumental musician based out of Wilmington, NC. He grew up in rural Pennsylvania, the son of a radio DJ who instilled in Josh a deep love for music. A self-taught guitarist, his musical stylings evolved from listening to classic vinyl records and learning to improvise melodies. He initially started out playing bass guitar and often incorporates several other percussive instruments into his performances. Josh’s actual degree is in Adventure Education Leadership and Wilderness Therapy and his original songs are often inspired by his extensive outdoor adventures and travels. Community Lantern Project 2020

Participants of all ages are invited to create a silhouette to grace this year’s Community Lantern. Choose your own profile or outline the features of someone dear and cut the image from black paper. Visit CAM on Saturday, November 7, where paper guru Fritzi Huber will be demonstrating and assisting with the cutting of your silhouette or create your silhouette at home with your own supplies (finished size no larger than 5” x 8”) and drop off your silhouette at CAM’s Front Desk by 5pm on Saturday, November 7. A team of volunteers will arrange the profiles to create a community of portraits and shadows on the finished lantern. Like years before, the Community Lantern will be displayed in Illuminations 2020 which opens November 20.

Don't miss Come Hear NC: Benny Hill. This concert is part of CAM's Come Hear NC series, funded in part by the North Carolina Arts Council and AARP North Carolina. Benny Hill is steeped in the tradition of many of the past greats including Julian ‘Cannonball’ Adderley, Jackie McLean, Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane and Charlie Parker. His improvisations on the Alto Saxophone are reminiscent of these greats, yet he has a distinct style and voice of his own. Benny is a true crowd-pleaser and never fails to raise excitement and enthusiasm while on stage. This concert will also be livestreamed on CAM's Facebook page and YouTube channel. The songs that were written between 1900 and 1920 tell the story of the changing attitudes of women in our society. Take a walk through the popular music of the era and hear how artists like Irving Berlin and others composed messages of suffrage for song and dance.
Guest presenter Michael Lasser is the author of books on American songs, and host of the nationally syndicated public radio show, Fascinatin’ Rhythm.
