Step into the galleries on Sunday afternoons this winter and surround yourself with art and music at CAM. On the second Sunday in December and January, members of the Wilmington Youth Symphony Orchestra will present an hour of music in the Hughes Wing. A limited number of seats will be available, socially distanced in the gallery. In March, we will welcome an ensemble in the Weyerhaeuser Reception Hall. Adults: 10. Students and children 19 and under are free. Preregistration suggested, limited seating.

Virtual Floating Lanterns

We invite you to join us virtually for this year’s floating lantern ceremony. Remember someone special, express your gratitude, or create a wish for the new year when you adorn your lantern sleeve.

CAM staff and volunteers will assemble and float the lanterns on CAM’s Reflecting Pond beginning at 5 pm on Sunday, January 10, 2021. Live music by Perry Smith on drums and Josh Youse on guitar will help set the stage for the evening as the sun sets and the candlelight from the lanterns come into focus.

Lanterns $12 each through January 9th, decorate at home.

Join us for a dynamic virtual conversation with North Carolina artist Juan Logan. Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Juan Logan now lives and works in Belmont, North Carolina. Logan’s artworks address subjects relevant to the American experience. At once abstract and representational, his paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, and videos address the interconnections of race, place, and power. They make visible how hierarchical relations and social stereotypes shape individuals, institutions, and the material and mental landscapes of contemporary life. Registration information to come.

Emily Burdette grew up in the small town of St. Albans, West Virginia. She began exploring music at a young age. Her mother and father always had music on in the house and encouraged listening to a wide range of artists such as The Beatles, Madonna, The Beach Boys, Elton John, & Linda Ronstadt. She began writing lyrics when she was fourteen years old. After having tried piano lessons and deciding that wasn’t for her, she picked up the guitar.

While attending Belmont University in 2002 in Nashville, Tennessee, Emily decided she truly wanted to pursue a career in singing and songwriting. Her style emulates her influences including Jewel, Ingrid Michaelson, Sara Bareilles, and Sheryl Crow. She has a singer/songwriter style that invokes sounds of both pop and folk music.

In December 2011, Emily released Time to Speak, a 5-song EP of all original songs. This was done with the help of independent music producer and musician David White. She later recorded an eleven-track follow-up record with award-winning producer Karen Kane. This latest CD, entitled “Make Believe” was released on Nov. 15, 2013. Both are available on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.

Cameron Art Museum honors the life and work of civil rights activist Martin Luther King with the "I Have a Dream" Peace Flag Project. We invite the community to take inspiration from King’s iconic speech from 1963 and think deeply about our own hopes and dreams for ourselves, our city, our nation, and the world. These dreams will be written on squares of cloth, emblematic of the peace prayer flags created for centuries in Tibet. Your peace flag will be included in a community installation that will be displayed around the CAM pond. Together, these flags represent our collective desire for racial unity, community healing, and peace.
With everyone’s safety in mind, we have devised two ways you can join in the collaborative community fun.

Judson Hurd is a composer based in Wilmington, NC. He is influenced by the music of Nils Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds, Chad Lawson, Band of Horses, and other artists in the Neo-Classical and ambient genre. Judson Hurd began playing piano at age 4 and later studied at the Franz Schubert Conservatory in Paraguay. Judson's music and compositions usually feature piano but he also uses synths, samplers, guitars, to amplify his ideas. His music has been used for many projects such as Android, the Oprah Show, NBC, NPR, and many others.
