Jazz@CAM: Stanley Baird Group
Stanley Baird (www.stanleybaird.com), is an acclaimed musician, composer and entertainer, who has not only become a household item in his home state of North Carolina but he has also achieved wide recognition as an educator. Making his first appearance in the series, his line up includes: Stanley Baird, Saxophone, James Perry II, Lead Guitar, James Perry III, Bass Guitar, Jonathan Perry, Piano
Terrance Lassiter, Keyboard and Cedric Hardin, Drums.
During his teaching tenure in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, Stanley was able to quench his thirst for West Indian and Latin music, leaving an influence heard through his music. Throughout his career, Baird has covered every aspect of jazz, using his gift to create music with heart. Baird's philosophy for both himself and his non-profit, Stanley Baird Youth Jazz Foundation, is "Listening to music is good for the soul and the mind...don't do drugs, get your high on soothing, inspirational music." In 1991, he formed the Stanley Baird Group and has released seven albums with “Slow Jams: I”, being the latest release.

Floating Lantern Ceremony

See hundreds of paper lanterns floating on water and glowing warmly from their individual source of flickering light – a candle’s flame. Together, they become a soulful display of community spirit. CAM’s Floating Lantern Ceremony is an opportunity for expressions of remembrance, reflection and gratitude. And express your hopes and dreams for the new year. Participants are encouraged to personalize a paper lantern sleeve to float on CAM’s reflecting pond. Lantern sleeves available for purchase ($12 through Jan. 11, $15 on Jan. 12) throughout the ceremony.
Live music and demonstrations inside the museum and on the grounds enhance the late afternoon/early evening activities. This is an outside activity; the museum and exhibitions will remain open until 7pm. CAM Café will have veggie chili, hot dogs, hot chocolate, coffee and full bar service available for purchase. All exhibitions including "Illumination" are open at no charge, donations are appreciated.

North Carolina native, Justin Jernigan (www.facebook.com/justinjerniganmusic), plays the guitar and vocals mixing elements of Rock & Roll, Blues and Country. Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix & Johnny Cash are some of the artists he enjoyser. We make quilts to show friends and family how much we care, to remember those we love and to celebrate events. Guest artist and quilter Bobbi Fitzsimmons will show children how to create a quilt block with fabric and fabric markers. The blocks will become part of the “Kids @ CAM 2020” quilt to be displayed for all to enjoy. While you’re here, explore our exhibitions with one of our fun family guides (ask for one at the front desk) and stay for lunch at CAM Cafe!
Kids@CAM is fun for all ages! Parental supervision required at all times. No pre-registration necessary. Kids@CAM is an opportunity for families to spend a fun and creative afternoon at Cameron Art Museum. Offered once a month on select Saturdays, each Kids @ CAM provides an enriching museum experience for all ages through gallery exploration and hands-on art projects inspired by the works on display.
SPOKEN WORD: COAST Poetry Jam
Listen to poets puttin’ down the true spoken word, hosted by Bigg B and Sandra, the Midday Miss and music by DJ Mike Lang of COAST Radio (97.3 FM). This special edition of the Poetry Jam has a theme tied to commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Purchase seats the night of at the door; CAM Cafe cash bar and light bites available for purchase. Dance Works-in-Progress Showcase
The Dance Cooperative, in association with CAM, provides informal showings to give working choreographers and dancers a place to present works in progress for review and critique in a nurturing environment. The public is invited to witness the creative process through its many stages and provide assistance to help the creator grow the works to realize their concepts to the fullest potential.
