SUMMARY:USCT Descendants Homecoming Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Descendants Homecoming Day also serves as the second anniversary of the installation of Boundless by Stephen Hayes. The contemporary monument pulls from its current story tellers as much as it does from its historical narratives. Long before the statue was erected on our grounds\, the descendants of the USCT soldiers who fought during the Wilmington Campaign held and told these stories in their respective communities. This November 11th we will honor the men of the USCT through their continued family legacies. Join us for a day of fellowship through storytelling\, music\, reenactment and more. \nSaturday\, November 11\nFREE Community Day \n10 AM-5 PM Living History and USCT Reenactors on the Grounds \n10-11:30 AM Family Activities \n11-11:30 AM USCT Reenactor Clark Morgan of the Ohio 5th Speaks at Boundless \nClark Morgan aka Sgt Maj Milton Murray is a Civil War historian and presenter for the past 20 years focusing on the 5th USCT. He and other members (of the reorganized 5th) travel the country telling the untold stories of these great men of valor. Not just the military activities but other aspects of African Americans life in the mid-19th century. \n11 AM-12 PM Spanish Language Tour \n12 PM Gospel Selection by Dr. Andrena Evans\, USCT Descendant \n12:30 PM Premiere of a new short film chronicling the oral histories of USCT descendants\, by filmmaker Adam Alphin \n1:30 PM Lecture by Dr. Sherwin Bryant\, Associate Professor of African American Studies and History\, and Director of the Center for African American History at North Western University \n3 PM Tour of Boundless and the PNC USCT Park with Daniel Jones\, CAM Cultural Curator \n  \nSunday\, November 12\n1 PM DREAMS Theatre of Wilmington Performance of Fighting for Freedom \nFree with museum admission \nDirector Lesa Broadhead\, leads her ensemble of youth dancers to perform a dance\, specially choreographed in response to the Boundless statue\, Fighting for Freedom. \n  \nCAM Community Day is presented in part by \n

DESCRIPTION:CAM Members: Free; Not-Yet Members: $15 \n  \nSchedule of Events:\n5-7:30 PM Wine Tasting in CAM Café \n6-7 PM Conversation with Stephen Hayes and Dr. Valerie Johnson \nDr. Johnson\, the Dean of Arts\, Sciences & Humanities at Shaw University\, and currently Chair of the NC African American Heritage Commission. Dr. Johnson states that her mission is to “engage in activities that promote the stewardship of the natural\, historic\, and cultural resources in North Carolina as part of the larger global community; foster scholarship and activism in the areas of women’s and girls’ health; and to actively participate in the support and growth of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.” \nDurham-born artist Stephen Hayes\, a graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design\, is the recipient of the 1858 Prize for Contemporary South Art and teaches at Duke University. He is known for his figurative work\, specifically depicting African American experience. His work has been featured at the National Cathedral\, Winston Salem State University\, Duke University\, CAM Raleigh\, Rosa Parks Museum\, African American Museum of Philadelphia\, and Harvey B.
