DESCRIPTION:Boundless Tour in the PNC USCT Park – Free with Museum Admission\n\nStep into history with a guided tour of Boundless\, a life-size bronze sculpture by artist Stephen Hayes. Located in PNC USCT Park on CAM’s grounds\, this striking monument honors the legacy of the United States Colored Troops (USCT)—the brave soldiers who fought in the Battle of Forks Road during the Civil War in 1865.\n\nThe sculpture was created from casts of the features of 11 African American men connected to the site and its story – USCT descendants\, re-enactors\, veterans\, and community leaders. Boundless was unveiled on November 13\, 2021\, and is on permanent view in the PNC USCT Park on the museum grounds. DESCRIPTION:Connections invites people in the early stages of Alzheimer’s and dementia and their caregivers to experience CAM in a supported environment designed to minimize stress and to provide a connection with the art thanks to support from Champion McDowell Davis Charitable Foundation. \n  \n\n\n\n\nOn Mondays\, when CAM is closed to the public\, guests enjoy a guided tour of the exhibitions led by CAM Connections Volunteers. Following the tour\, participants are encouraged to create artwork inspired by what they’ve seen. DESCRIPTION:Jazz@CAM: Mangroove\nThursday\, October 1\n7 PM\nReception Hall \nCAM Members: $40\nNot-Yet Members: $60\nStudents: $15 \nExperience an evening of jazz\, Latin rhythms\, and polyrhythmic expression with Mangroove\, led by percussionist\, vocalist\, and bandleader Manny Santos. \nOriginally from New Bedford\, Massachusetts\, Santos began performing professionally at age 15. Drawing inspiration from his Cape Verdean heritage\, his music brings together jazz\, Latin traditions\, and global influences. While living in Boston\, Santos further developed his craft through studies at New England Conservatory and Berklee College of Music\, becoming an accomplished conga player along the way. \nOver a career spanning more than 30 years\, Santos has performed with artists including Kurt Elling\, Donald Harrison\, Maurice Starr\, Steven Tyler\, Ran Blake\, Hilliard Greene\, Walter Beasley\, and the late Jaki Byard. \nAfter moving to Wilmington in 2012\, Santos created Mangroove\, a collaborative project featuring musicians from across the region. Reflect on the work of Jonathan Green and the paintings in the exhibition that mirror the Gullah Geechee environment\, history\, and traditions. \nStretching from Jacksonville\, North Carolina\, to Jacksonville\, Florida\, the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor works to preserve and interpret the traditional cultural practices\, historic sites\, and natural resources connected to Gullah Geechee communities. Through this conversation\, discover the significant contributions Gullah Geechee people have made to American culture and history\, and learn about the ongoing efforts to protect their communities\, lands\, waters\, and traditions. \nAs the Corridor’s Resiliency Manager\, Erica focuses on climate resilience and preserving land and water. She will bring this environmental lens to the exhibition\, exploring the connections between people and place—from the sweetgrass woven into working baskets to the ancestral lands and Lowcountry landscapes represented in Green’s paintings. \nRegister\n\nAbout the speaker:\nERICA XAVIER-BEAUVOIR is a diverse human-centered public servant\, storyteller\, and community engagement professional with over 15 years of experience in the public safety sector. They are the Resiliency Manager with the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor\, extending their mission to recognize the unique culture of the Gullah Geechee people who have traditionally lived in the coastal areas and sea islands of North Carolina\, South Carolina\, Georgia\, and Florida.  Creating mindful spaces for data gathering coupled with best-practice research\, Erica has led projects regarding food equity\, criminal justice\, and urban design thinking. She gained experience with land use and repurposing urban land to improve functionality in underserved communities. As a Death Doula and natural burial consultant\, Erica has first-hand knowledge regarding improving narratives in diverse communities to elevate and educate those seeking burial options. They hold a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice\, a Master’s in Emergency Management\, and a Doctorate in Metaphysics (nonsecular).

DESCRIPTION:Boundless Tour in the PNC USCT Park – Free with Museum Admission\n\nStep into history with a guided tour of Boundless\, a life-size bronze sculpture by artist Stephen Hayes. Located in PNC USCT Park on CAM’s grounds\, this striking monument honors the legacy of the United States Colored Troops (USCT)—the brave soldiers who fought in the Battle of Forks Road during the Civil War in 1865.\n\nThe sculpture was created from casts of the features of 11 African American men connected to the site and its story – USCT descendants\, re-enactors\, veterans\, and community leaders. Boundless was unveiled on November 13\, 2021\, and is on permanent view in the PNC USCT Park on the museum grounds. The sculpture is deeply connected to our community’s history\, present\, and future. \n\n\nWhen: Every Friday from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM.
