SUMMARY:CAM After Dark: Artist Talk with Carmen Neely and Ayana V. Jackson
DESCRIPTION:CAM After Dark: Artist Talk with Carmen Neely and\nAyana V. Jackson\nThursday\, August 14\, 6:30 PM\nReception Hall & We Belong Here Exhibition CAM Members $15 | Not-Yet Members $20 | Students Free \nJoin us for the final conversation in our We Belong Here exhibition series\, featuring two visionary artists from the exhibition: Ayana V. Jackson and Carmen Neely. \nAyana V. Jackson’s work examines myths of the Black diaspora\, re-staging colonial archival images as a means to liberate the Black body. With a background in both sociology and fine art\, Jackson brings rigorous research to each project—often casting herself in the role of historical figures to explore the cultural and social histories embedded in the imagery. \nCarmen Neely’s painting practice is rooted in abstraction\, which she uses as a conceptual tool to explore themes of identity and memory. For Neely\, the distinction between types of line is not simply a formal concern; it’s an earnest attempt to express personal history and inherited narratives through the act of mark making. \nPhoto credit (Ayana Jackson): Andile Buka \n  \nREGISTER HERE \n  \nLearn more about the We Belong Here exhibition here. \n

SUMMARY:Mindfulness Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Mindfulness Meditation in the Galleries\nFriday\, August 15\, 9 – 9:50 AM | $5 suggested donation\n\nJoin us in a contemplative gallery space for mindfulness meditation\, taught by Certified Teacher Bonne Lynn Anderson. \nSimply put\, mindfulness is the practice of bringing attention to the present moment and meeting whatever arises without bias or criticism. Scientific research shows it can also enhance balance\, focus\, strength\, and resilience. \nMindfulness meditation is a secular practice\, accessible to all\, and deeply beneficial both on and off the cushion. \nAbout the Instructor:\nBonne Lynn Anderson is a Certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher through Dharma Moon and Tibet House. Her lifelong interest in spiritual practice has led her to explore a range of teachings\, with this practice in particular emerging as her most effective and accessible path. Her teaching style is friendly\, grounded\, and welcoming to all experience levels. \nNote: The galleries can be cool—bring a garment for comfort. \n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more about Wellness at CAM here.\n\nFor questions or concerns regarding accessibility\, please contact Georgia Mastroieni\, Deputy Director of Operations at (910) 726-9492 or georgia@cameronartmuseum.org
