SUMMARY:Member Preview Gallery Talk in "5: Five Years of Acquisitions": Clarence Heyward
DESCRIPTION:Free; CAM Members Only \n  \n  \nCAM collection continues to expand with trendsetting artists who are shaping NC’s creative economy and giving voice to the spectrum of American experiences. Born and raised in Brooklyn\, NY\, Clarence Heyward now creates paintings and collages in his Raleigh studio. Heyward’s work explores notions of the Black American experience\, primarily focusing on how the use of media and historical documentation is used to shape perceptions of Black American culture. His work investigates cultural truths\, challenges stereotypes\, and examines identity. Using the chromakey green color to reference the video concept of a green screen\, Clarence creates a sense of possibility within identity as we recognize who we see on the canvas is a function of who we are as observers. \n  \nSponsored by Blair Kutrow and Vic Roberts \n  \n  \nREGISTER

SUMMARY:Film Screening & Exhibition Closing: Charles Edward Williams
DESCRIPTION:CAM Members: $5\nNot-Yet Members: $10\nStudents: Free \n  \n  \n\nJoin us on the closing day of Stay in the Light for a screening and conversation with artist Charles Edward Williams. For several years\, Williams has used film as another tool for community engagement while exploring cultural identity. The films address topics from Williams’ personal confrontation of fear to a national reckoning with police brutality and the need to reestablish trust in authority. Williams is inspired by the Black experience. His paintings\, drawings\, videos and installations investigate current historical cultural events related to racism and stereotyping. His works encourage us to examine our moral compass as both individuals and a nation.\n\n\n\nThe artist’s films include:\n\nContinuum\, 2016 – 4:09 min \nNother Day\, 2017 – 3:02 min \nUNTITLED (son)\, 2018 – 3:27 min \nThe Call\, 2018 – 6:16 min \nBlessings Indigues\, 2023 – 3:59 min (unfinished) \n  \n  \nREGISTER
