SUMMARY:Jazz at CAM: James Fernando Trio
DESCRIPTION:Jazz@CAM: James Fernando Trio\nThursday\, April 1\n7–9 PM \nCAM Members: $40\nNot-Yet Members: $60\nStudents: $15 \nThe James Fernando Trio brings its dynamic blend of technical mastery\, playful improvisation\, and deep musical chemistry to the Jazz@CAM stage. Based in Philadelphia\, the trio presents fresh interpretations of jazz standards alongside original compositions rooted in tradition and shaped by a contemporary perspective. \nFormed in 2023\, the trio came together after pianist and composer James Fernando received a call to assemble a group for a Kennedy Center performance with only three days’ notice. The musicians met onstage for the first time that day and quickly discovered a powerful connection. Since then\, the trio has performed at leading venues and universities across the country and released its debut album\, Philly 3\, in 2026. \nThe group’s music draws inspiration from jazz greats including Duke Ellington\, Oscar Peterson\, and Thelonious Monk. Through inventive arrangements\, captivating rhythms\, and spontaneous interplay\, the trio brings the jazz tradition into the present with performances that are vibrant\, accessible\, and full of personality. \nFernando is a Philadelphia-based pianist and composer whose work blends jazz\, classical\, and electronic influences. A 2026 Gilmore Festival Fellow\, he has received recognition from DownBeat Magazine and the National YoungArts Foundation and earned first prize at the West Virginia International Piano Competition. He graduated summa cum laude from Berklee College of Music and has performed internationally with artists including Tom Paxton\, Cathy Fink\, Marcy Marxer\, Victor Provost\, and Chris Cheek. \nExperience the James Fernando Trio for an evening of dazzling musicianship\, joyful collaboration\, and bold contemporary jazz. \nRegister \nJazz at CAM is funded in part by the generosity of these individuals: \nMr. M. Ricardo McCrimmon\nNancie and James Kennedy\nDr. William Malloy and Ms. Maxine Terry

SUMMARY:Music At CAM: Les Fontanelles
DESCRIPTION:Music@CAM: Les Fontanelles\nSunday\, June 13\n2–4 PM\nReception Hall \nCAM Members: $20\nNot-Yet Members: $25\nStudents: $15 \nWilmington folk group Les Fontanelles brings its harmony-driven sound and distinctly coastal point of view to Music@CAM. \nPresented in connection with With A Southern Accent: Sporting Art and Fine Art of Eastern North Carolina\, this concert celebrates the music\, stories\, and sense of place that shape the region. With deep roots along the North Carolina coast\, Les Fontanelles blends sweetness\, grit\, humor\, and heart into songs that feel both familiar and entirely their own. \nThe band draws inspiration from artists including Townes Van Zandt\, Dire Straits\, The Byrds\, Blaze Foley\, Bonnie “Prince” Billy\, Mazzy Star\, and Magnolia Electric Co. Their music reflects a belief that life may be filled with heartache\, but laughter and love are what make the journey beautiful. \nEqual parts front-porch gathering and late-night storytelling\, a Les Fontanelles performance moves easily between tenderness\, wit\, and a little mischief. Be prepared to cry\, cackle\, and blush before the afternoon is over. \nThe five-piece group features members of Wilmington bands No Dollar $hoes\, Masonboro Sound\, and The Barnraisers\, including Carson Jewell\, Jesse Jewell\, Richard Welsh\, Shane Lippard\, and Tiff Reece Jewell. \nRegister
