A 2013 graduate of UNCW with a Bachelor’s in Music Education\, she was deeply involved in campus life. In her time\, she served as Principal Violinist for the UNCW String Ensemble\, Director of the Gospel Choir\, and Assistant Director of the Seabelles A Cappella Ensemble. Her leadership and academic excellence earned her the prestigious UNCW Senior Medallion. \nAfter graduation\, Christa spent nearly a decade in education\, teaching music at Snipes Academy of Arts and Design\, where she founded New Hanover County Schools’ first elementary Strings program and led a highly active choral group that performed at major community events. Recognized for her impact\, she was named Snipes Academy’s 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year and was a finalist for NHCS Teacher of the Year. \nContinuing her education\, Christa earned a Master’s in Music Education from Anderson University and an Administration Licensure from UNCW. She has since transitioned into leadership roles\, currently serving as an Assistant Principal at John T. Hoggard High School and Interim Supervisor of Arts Education for NHCS. \nAs a freelance violinist\, Christa performs with ensembles like the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra and the Tallis Chamber Orchestra\, and she frequently collaborates on special projects such as the Cucalorus Film Festival and Hurricane Florence Relief Benefit Concert. \nAbove all\, Christa’s greatest passion is her faith. She finds joy in ministering to youth and leading worship\, serving as a Sunday School teacher and Minister of Music at Byrd’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Deeply grateful for the love and guidance of her parents\, Rev. Hon. James H. Faison III and Minister Angela Faison\, Christa continues to inspire through her music\, leadership\, and devotion to community and faith. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPNC USCT PARK\nThe PNC USCT Park is the only sculpture park in the nation created to honor the United States Colored Troops and their fight for freedom. The park is located on museum grounds\, which was the site of the Battle of Forks Road. Located in the park is Boundless\, a life-size public  sculpture by NC artist Stephen Hayes depicting the figures of 11 African American men\, casted in bronze\, who are connected to the site and its story – USCT descendants\, re-enactors\, veterans\, and community leaders. \nLearn more about Boundless and the PNC USCT Park here. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSponsored in part by

SUMMARY:Black Arts Alliance NC Black Film Festival Closing and Awards
DESCRIPTION:Join us April 13th for the Closing Ceremony of the NC Black Film Festival\, presented by Black Arts Alliance\, featuring an awards ceremony followed by a film screening of the closing documentary\, Minnie Evans: Draw or Die. \nThe Black Arts Alliance is proud to present the 22nd Annual North Carolina Black Film Festival\, April 10-13 in Wilmington\, NC. The four-day juried and invitational festival of independent motion pictures by African-American filmmakers\, as well as films on subjects of Black life and history\, will showcase features\, shorts and documentary films. Trophies will be awarded in each category. \n\n\n\n  \n\n2 PM: 2025 Award Ceremony \n\n3:00 PM: Film screening of the closing documentary Minnie Evans: Draw or Die\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAdmission: $25\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\nREGISTER\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE FILM\nMinnie Evans began drawing in 1935\, compelled by dreams and later a voice that suggested she must “draw or die.” \nThe desire to fulfill her soul’s purpose given by God is at the center of her visionary work. During her lifetime she drew an estimated 3000 pictures using crayon and other media on found and donated materials. Evans’s paintings and drawings are in the collections of prominent art museums\, yet she’s not widely recognized. \nThe film lifts the unique voice of self-taught artist Minnie Evans from conversations between Evans and photographer\, Nina Howell Starr.  Preserved in the Smithsonian Museum of American Art archives\, their taped discussions from the ’60’s-70’s reveal a loving friendship and Minnie’s resiliency. Grounded in the compositions and forms she produced\, the film’s visuals will employ archival images\, Nina Starr’s black and white photography along with the gardens and coastal landscapes that inspired Minnie’s work.

SUMMARY:CAM After Dark with Ben Billingsley: The Game Changers
DESCRIPTION:Join us Thursday\, April 10th at 6:30 PM for CAM After Dark with Ben Billingsley as he leads an insightful conversation surrounding The Game Changers exhibition.  \nAt 6:30 PM\, guest curator and local artist Ben Billingsley will present an in-depth illustrated lecture on the life and works of artists Richard Diebenkorn\, Helen Frankenthaler\, and Robert Rauschenberg.
