SUMMARY:Mindfulness Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Mindfulness Meditation in the Galleries\nFriday\, June 20\, 9 – 9:50 AM | Free Introductory Session\n\nJoin us in a contemplative gallery space for an introduction to mindfulness meditation\, taught by Certified Teacher Bonne Lynn Anderson. \nSimply put\, mindfulness is the practice of bringing attention to the present moment and meeting whatever arises without bias or criticism. With regular practice\, it cultivates spacious awareness around our thoughts and emotions\, encouraging clarity and the ability to respond rather than react. Scientific research shows it can also enhance balance\, focus\, strength\, and resilience. \nMindfulness meditation is a secular practice\, accessible to all\, and deeply beneficial both on and off the cushion. \nAbout the Instructor:\nBonne Lynn Anderson is a Certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher through Dharma Moon and Tibet House. Her lifelong interest in spiritual practice has led her to explore a range of teachings\, with this practice in particular emerging as her most effective and accessible path. Her teaching style is friendly\, grounded\, and welcoming to all experience levels. \nNote: The galleries can be cool—bring a garment for comfort. \n\nREGISTER HERE\n\n\n\nLearn more about Wellness at CAM here.\n\nFor questions or concerns regarding accessibility\, please contact Georgia Mastroieni\, Deputy Director of Operations at (910) 726-9492 or georgia@cameronartmuseum.org

SUMMARY:Veterans Juneteenth Workshop: Legacy & Memory through Artifacts of Service
DESCRIPTION:Veterans Juneteenth Workshop: Legacy & Memory through Artifacts of Service\nWednesday\, June 25\, 11 AM–2 PM\nReception Hall | Free for active military\, veterans\, and first responders \nIn recognition of Juneteenth\, the Veterans Creative Arts Program in partnership with CAM invites service members to a special morning of history and creativity at this Veterans Juneteenth Workshop with artist Jermaine “JP” Powell and CAM Cultural Curator Daniel Jones. \nDaniel Jones will share the powerful story of William J. Gould\, an enslaved plasterer from Wilmington who escaped by sea during the Civil War and served in the United States Navy. Gould’s detailed diary offers a rare firsthand account of service and self-liberation. Guests will see Jermaine’s innovative portrait of William J. Gould created for the Black on Black Project’s 1897 Continuum of Change initiative. \nFollowing the talk\, artist JP Jermaine Powell will lead the hands-on Veterans Juneteenth Workshop session\, Legacy & Memory: Artifacts of Service\, where participants will design a symbolic medal\, insignia\, or patch representing their service\, values\, or life mission\, drawing inspiration from museum objects and personal experiences. \nAbout the Artist:\nJP Jermaine Powell is a North Carolina–based mixed-media painter\, public artist\, and luxury art specialist. Known for his richly textured work that fuses cultural storytelling with bold design\, Powell creates immersive public installations and lush paintings that reflect themes of identity\, transformation\, and legacy. His work has been exhibited at the North Carolina Museum of Art\, CAM Raleigh\, the World Trade Center\, and internationally at the Al Maqam residency in Marrakesh\, Morocco. \nREGISTER HERE
