SUMMARY:CAM After Dark: "At a Stranger's Table" Film Screening and Conversation
DESCRIPTION:CAM After Dark: At a Stranger’s Table Film Screening and Conversation\nThursday\, November 12 | 6:30–8 PM\nReception Hall\n$10 Members / $15 Not-Yet Members / Free for Students \nRegister Here | Watch the Trailer \nWhat happens when people whose lives rarely intersect come together around a shared table? \nJoin us for a special screening of At a Stranger’s Table\, a documentary following Mexican H-2A farmworkers in eastern North Carolina from the fields to a shared meal with members of the local community. \nTold through the workers’ own voices\, the film explores labor\, family\, separation\, and dignity while inviting audiences to consider the connections that can emerge through conversation and shared experiences. Around the table\, people separated by language\, culture\, and circumstance come together to listen\, exchange stories\, and find common ground. \nFollowing the screening\, stay for a conversation with artists Cornelio Campos and Sally Jacobs\, and filmmaker Scott Temple\, moderated by Isabela Lujan. Together\, they will explore the film’s themes of community\, identity\, and the power of storytelling to deepen our understanding of one another. \nAbout the Panelists\nScott Temple is a writer\, photographer\, and filmmaker whose multimedia work combines storytelling and imagery\, most notably in his documentary At a Stranger’s Table. He holds a BA from Appalachian State University and an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College. His creative practice reflects a passion for storytelling\, the natural world\, and fostering connections with the places and people around him. \nSally Jacobs is a painter and professor of painting and drawing at Cleveland Community College in Shelby\, North Carolina. She earned her BFA from the University of Cincinnati and her MFA from Western Carolina University. Her work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally\, including in Florence\, Italy\, and New York. She is represented by Prince Street Gallery in New York City. \nCornelio Campos is a self-taught Mexican American artist based in Durham\, North Carolina. Drawing on his experiences as an immigrant\, his vibrant\, symbol-rich paintings explore immigration\, cultural identity\, and the social realities of the U.S.-Mexico border. His public art projects include Libertad\, a 2\,700-square-foot community mural at El Futuro in Durham\, and the AMEXCAN School Bus\, a mobile artwork celebrating the cultural and economic contributions of migrant farmworkers in eastern North Carolina. \nAbout the Moderator\nIsabela Lujan is a business owner\, real estate professional\, and founder and co-chair of the Latin American Business Council in partnership with the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce. Originally from Venezuela\, where she studied anthropology at the Central University of Venezuela\, Lujan is actively involved in initiatives supporting the Latino community in the Cape Fear region.
