DESCRIPTION:Boundless Tour in the PNC USCT Park – Free with Museum Admission\n\nStep into history with a guided tour of Boundless\, a life-size bronze sculpture by artist Stephen Hayes. Located in PNC USCT Park on CAM’s grounds\, this striking monument honors the legacy of the United States Colored Troops (USCT)—the brave soldiers who fought in the Battle of Forks Road during the Civil War in 1865.\n\nThe sculpture was created from casts of the features of 11 African American men connected to the site and its story – USCT descendants\, re-enactors\, veterans\, and community leaders. Boundless was unveiled on November 13\, 2021\, and is on permanent view in the PNC USCT Park on the museum grounds. The sculpture is deeply connected to our community’s history\, present\, and future. \n\n\nWhen: Every Friday from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM. DESCRIPTION:CAM After Dark: Illustrated Lecture with Mel Chin\nThursday\, September 10th\, 6:30–7:30 PM\n\n\nReception Hall\nCAM Members $10 | Not Yet Members $15 | Students & Educators Free\nSpend an evening with acclaimed conceptual artist Mel Chin during a special illustrated lecture at CAM.\n\n\n\n\n\nKnown for an expansive creative practice that crosses sculpture\, installation\, technology\, environmental intervention\, and collaborative public art\, Chin uses art to engage with complex social\, political\, and environmental issues. Through images and conversation\, explore groundbreaking projects from throughout his influential career and the ideas that continue to shape his work. \nThis event is in partnership with the UNCW Art & Art History department and the Office of High Impact Practices. \n       \nAbout the Artist\nMel Chin (b. 1951\, Houston\, Texas) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work addresses environmental\, political\, and social issues through a wide range of media and collaborative approaches. He earned a B.A. from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University in 1975. \nChin’s landmark projects include Revival Field (1990)\, a pioneering work exploring the use of plants to remove toxic metals from contaminated soil\, and Unmoored (2018)\, a large-scale public installation in New York City’s Times Square. His work has been exhibited internationally\, including a major 40-year survey at the Queens Museum in New York. \nChin is a recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. She starred in Andy Warhol’s Pork at The Roundhouse Theatre in London\, giving her a firsthand glimpse into Warhol’s world and the legendary personalities who surrounded it. \nGet a backstage pass to an era defined by art\, music\, rebellion\, and excess as Cherry recounts the glamorous encounters\, outrageous adventures\, and unexpected turns that shaped her famously unconventional life. \nRegister\nAbout Cherry Vanilla\nBorn in Queens\, New York\, Cherry Vanilla began her career in the 1960s producing radio and television commercials while also DJing at clubs in Manhattan and on the French Riviera. \nBy the 1970s\, after gaining notoriety as a rock ’n’ roll groupie\, Cherry had become an underground actress\, playing the title role in Andy Warhol’s Pork at The Roundhouse Theatre in London. \nIn addition to her self-published book Pop Tart Compositions\, Cherry has worked throughout the music and entertainment industries with iconic artists including David Bowie and Stewart Copeland. In 1995\, she moved to Hollywood\, where she worked for director Tim Burton before establishing Europa Entertainment\, Inc.\, the U.S. office for composer Vangelis\, which she operated until 2014. \nIn 2010\, Chicago Review Press published her memoir\, Lick Me: How I Became Cherry Vanilla. \nCherry now lives in Palm Springs\, California\, where she continues to develop music and film projects.
