DESCRIPTION:CAM Members: Free; Not-Yet Members: $15 \n  \nSchedule of Events:\n5-7:30 PM Wine Tasting in CAM Café \n6-7 PM Conversation with Stephen Hayes and Dr. Valerie Johnson \nDr. Johnson\, the Dean of Arts\, Sciences & Humanities at Shaw University\, and currently Chair of the NC African American Heritage Commission. Dr. Johnson states that her mission is to “engage in activities that promote the stewardship of the natural\, historic\, and cultural resources in North Carolina as part of the larger global community; foster scholarship and activism in the areas of women’s and girls’ health; and to actively participate in the support and growth of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.” \nDurham-born artist Stephen Hayes\, a graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design\, is the recipient of the 1858 Prize for Contemporary South Art and teaches at Duke University. He is known for his figurative work\, specifically depicting African American experience. His work has been featured at the National Cathedral\, Winston Salem State University\, Duke University\, CAM Raleigh\, Rosa Parks Museum\, African American Museum of Philadelphia\, and Harvey B. DESCRIPTION:Member Tours at 2 PM and 5 PM \n  \nMonument takes inspiration from Boundless\, the new public sculpture on CAM’s grounds by Stephen Hayes\, and asks how contemporary artists engage with the Civil War and its immediate aftermath.
