Fresh Air is a bold exploration of inflatable sculpture\, showcasing soft materials and form. This exhibition invites viewers to engage with art that is both playful and deeply reflective. Expect the unexpected in this dynamic celebration of form\, space\, and imagination. Included are Andy Warhol’s immersive and magical Silver Clouds (on view through Sept 26\, 2026\, in Studio One Gallery) alongside contemporary artist Nick Cave’s large sculptural installation Augment\, which transforms the gallery into a site of collective joy and reflection.\nAndy Warhol: Silver Clouds:  June 19 – September 27\, 2026. Silver Clouds\, a magical installation by the world’s preeminent Pop artist\, Andy Warhol. The Studio One gallery is transformed into an interactive art experience\, as roughly 80 floating silver balloons fill the space\, enticing viewers to interact with the objects and the space in an entirely new way.  Playful yet profound\, this exhibition captures Warhol’s fascination with repetition\, celebrity\, and mass production—while inviting visitors to step inside one of Pop Art’s most iconic and interactive works.\nRooted in Memory: The Gullah Geechee Vision of Jonathan Green: June 19– January 24\, 2027. In Rooted in Memory: The Gullah Geechee Vision of Jonathan Green\, Jonathan Green’s vibrant paintings serve as both a celebration of culture and a poignant meditation on history and community. Rankin for a gallery talk exploring the cultural and artistic history of inflatable sculpture and air-based forms.\n\n\n \nDrawing connections among works by Andy Warhol\, Mike Kelley\, Nick Cave\, and artists featured in Fresh Air: Inflatable Sculptures\, Rankin will examine how air functions as both a material and a symbol across art\, technology\, and the collective imagination.\n\n\n \nDiscover how softness\, mass-produced objects\, and cultural ephemera challenge traditional ideas of sculpture. The conversation will also consider inflatables as objects of tenderness and vulnerability\, positioned between ecological awareness and social experimentation.\n\nREGISTER\n\n\n\nAbout the Artist\n \n\n\n\nAna Vizcarra Rankin (A.V.) is a Uruguayan-American artist whose work explores the intersections of art\, science\, environmental stewardship\, and human perception. Through painting\, drawing\, installation\, and participatory projects\, she investigates how mapping\, data visualization\, astronomy\, and material culture shape our understanding of the world and our place within it. Rankin’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally\, and is held in numerous public collections including the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Museum\, Brandywine River Museum of Art\, and the Uruguay Cultural Foundation for the Arts.\n \nA.V. (pronounced Ay-vee) works from Painted Foot Art Lab in downtown Wilmington\, NC. She is the founder of BDG International\, a curatorial exchange program dedicated to grassroots collaboration and cultural exchange\, and serves as part-time Faculty in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Her current research examines light\, water\, atmosphere\, and systems of connection\, exploring the invisible boundaries that shape our ecological and social worlds.

DESCRIPTION:CAM After Dark: Illustrated Lecture with Mel Chin\nThursday\, September 10th\, 6:30–7:30 PM\n\n\nReception Hall\nCAM Members $10 | Not Yet Members $15 | Students & Educators Free\nSpend an evening with acclaimed conceptual artist Mel Chin during a special illustrated lecture at CAM.\n\n\n\n\n\nKnown for an expansive creative practice that crosses sculpture\, installation\, technology\, environmental intervention\, and collaborative public art\, Chin uses art to engage with complex social\, political\, and environmental issues. Through images and conversation\, explore groundbreaking projects from throughout his influential career and the ideas that continue to shape his work. \nThis event is in partnership with the UNCW Art & Art History department and the Office of High Impact Practices. \n       \nAbout the Artist\nMel Chin (b. 1951\, Houston\, Texas) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work addresses environmental\, political\, and social issues through a wide range of media and collaborative approaches. He earned a B.A. from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University in 1975. \nChin’s landmark projects include Revival Field (1990)\, a pioneering work exploring the use of plants to remove toxic metals from contaminated soil\, and Unmoored (2018)\, a large-scale public installation in New York City’s Times Square. His work has been exhibited internationally\, including a major 40-year survey at the Queens Museum in New York. \nChin is a recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. She starred in Andy Warhol’s Pork at The Roundhouse Theatre in London\, giving her a firsthand glimpse into Warhol’s world and the legendary personalities who surrounded it. \nGet a backstage pass to an era defined by art\, music\, rebellion\, and excess as Cherry recounts the glamorous encounters\, outrageous adventures\, and unexpected turns that shaped her famously unconventional life. \nRegister\nAbout Cherry Vanilla\nBorn in Queens\, New York\, Cherry Vanilla began her career in the 1960s producing radio and television commercials while also DJing at clubs in Manhattan and on the French Riviera. \nBy the 1970s\, after gaining notoriety as a rock ’n’ roll groupie\, Cherry had become an underground actress\, playing the title role in Andy Warhol’s Pork at The Roundhouse Theatre in London. \nIn addition to her self-published book Pop Tart Compositions\, Cherry has worked throughout the music and entertainment industries with iconic artists including David Bowie and Stewart Copeland. In 1995\, she moved to Hollywood\, where she worked for director Tim Burton before establishing Europa Entertainment\, Inc.\, the U.S. office for composer Vangelis\, which she operated until 2014. \nIn 2010\, Chicago Review Press published her memoir\, Lick Me: How I Became Cherry Vanilla. \nCherry now lives in Palm Springs\, California\, where she continues to develop music and film projects.
