DESCRIPTION:Mary’s Art Explorers – Coat of Many Colors\n\n\nThursday\, October 8\n10-11 AM\nReception Hall \nJoin us for Mary’s Art Explorers on Thursday\, October 8th\, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the Reception Hall. In Celebration of our newest exhibition With A Southern Accent we will be reading Coat of Many Colors by Dolly Parton\, illustrated by Brooke Boynton-Hughes. The children will then enjoy a craft creating their own coat collages with many colors\, listen to music performed by Mr. Mark\, followed by a 30-minute guided tour through the gallery! \n\n\n \nThis storytime session is perfect for infants\, toddlers\, and preschoolers\, though older siblings are welcome to join. Your registration includes all-day museum admission\, so you and your little ones can keep exploring after the program. Space is limited\, so preregister to guarantee your spot! \nMark Herbert\, also known as “Mr. Mark\,” is an artist\, musician\, and performer from Wilmington\, North Carolina. He created the Broccoli Brothers Circus\, where music\, puppets\, silly jokes\, and imagination come together! Each week features talented local artists\, creating the perfect backdrop for your dining experience. This Wednesday\, enjoy acoustic music by Rodger Davis as you enjoy a delicious dinner and cocktail in a beautiful setting. \nPlus\, receive FREE gallery admission with your café purchase! \nMake your dinner reservation by calling the café at (910) 777-2363.  \nCAM Café is open from 5-8 PM for dinner. DESCRIPTION:CAM After Dark: Gallery Talk with Erica Xavier-Beauvoir in Rooted in Memory\nThursday\, October 8\n6:30 PM\nBrown Wing\nFree with Museum admission \nSpend the evening with Erica Xavier-Beauvoir for an in-depth look at Rooted in Memory: The Gullah Geechee Vision of Jonathan Green. Reflect on the work of Jonathan Green and the paintings in the exhibition that mirror the Gullah Geechee environment\, history\, and traditions. \nStretching from Jacksonville\, North Carolina\, to Jacksonville\, Florida\, the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor works to preserve and interpret the traditional cultural practices\, historic sites\, and natural resources connected to Gullah Geechee communities. Through this conversation\, discover the significant contributions Gullah Geechee people have made to American culture and history\, and learn about the ongoing efforts to protect their communities\, lands\, waters\, and traditions. \nAs the Corridor’s Resiliency Manager\, Erica focuses on climate resilience and preserving land and water. She will bring this environmental lens to the exhibition\, exploring the connections between people and place—from the sweetgrass woven into working baskets to the ancestral lands and Lowcountry landscapes represented in Green’s paintings. \nRegister\n\nAbout the speaker:\nERICA XAVIER-BEAUVOIR is a diverse human-centered public servant\, storyteller\, and community engagement professional with over 15 years of experience in the public safety sector. They are the Resiliency Manager with the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor\, extending their mission to recognize the unique culture of the Gullah Geechee people who have traditionally lived in the coastal areas and sea islands of North Carolina\, South Carolina\, Georgia\, and Florida.  Creating mindful spaces for data gathering coupled with best-practice research\, Erica has led projects regarding food equity\, criminal justice\, and urban design thinking. She gained experience with land use and repurposing urban land to improve functionality in underserved communities. As a Death Doula and natural burial consultant\, Erica has first-hand knowledge regarding improving narratives in diverse communities to elevate and educate those seeking burial options. They hold a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice\, a Master’s in Emergency Management\, and a Doctorate in Metaphysics (nonsecular).
