Join us for Kids@CAM and experience Japanese calligraphy through Shodo (書道), the traditional art of writing with brush and ink, with Kana Sahashi.
You’ll also explore Kakizome (書初め), the first calligraphy of the year in Japan. Traditionally, people in Japan write lucky words, personal goals, or special phrases for the New Year to welcome a fresh start and wish for a wonderful year ahead.
In this event, we will practice basic brush techniques and strokes before writing the Japanese characters. Japanese calligraphy not only helps improve handwriting but also supports good posture, boosts focus, and provides a relaxing, meditative experience.
Kids@CAM is an event for everyone, parents included! We will have activities for different ages including watercolor and origami. You can also take part in a guided tour of the Rock Garden by Japanese artist, Hiroshi Sueyoshi, at 11:30 am.
