Fire and Water are critical agents in the ecosystem of southeaster NC. In celebration of Fire in the Pines and FlowILM, CAM will feature a screening of Shew’s Natural Treasures, a documentary that focuses on our unique coastal environment.

The southeastern Coastal Plain of North Carolina holds many natural treasures including the mysterious Carolina Bays, Longleaf Pine Savannas with the iconic Venus flytrap, the historically important Cape Fear River and the Black River tributary holding ancient cypress trees, and the critically important Salt Marshes and Barrier Islands on our coast. The film highlights the areas’ varied and beautiful natural landscapes and explores the threats and challenges we must address to maintain these treasures for ourselves and for future generations.

A discussion will follow the screening with UNCW Professor Roger Shew and film director Jesse Bradley, joined by the leading organizers for Fire in the Pines and Flow ILM including Andy Fairbanks, Recreation Supervisor at Halyburton Park, Michelle Ly, Conservation Coordinator at The Nature Conservancy, and UNCW Professor Gene Felice, director of FlowILM.
