JAZZ: Doug Irving Quartet

The popular eight concert series enters its eighth season! We're starting off with area favorite, bassist Doug Irving (https://www.dougirvingtrio.com/) who always brings an array of excellent musicians to offer audiences a range of jazz idioms to enjoy. Joining Doug in his return to the Jazz @ The CAM series will be Thomas Taylor on drums, Brad Merritt on piano and Jerald Shynett on trombone. Purchase seats on CAM’s website, by phone 910.395.5999,and at CAM’s Visitor Services desk. $12.00 for CAM/CFJS Members, $20.00 for non-members, $10.00 for students with valid college ID (tax and fees not included).

Presented by Cameron Art Museum and the Cape Fear Jazz Society (CJFS, www.capefearjazzsociety.org. Hear musicians from Wilmington and around the state performing a range of jazz genres in an intimate “close up and personal” performance setting for your listening pleasure.

Hughes Wing
Artists Bruce Bowman, Fritzi Huber and Aaron Wilcox come together for an informal conversation on their art works “Carolina Apartments”, “Forgotten Memories” and “Growth” currently on view through September 17 in "Collection Conversations" at CAM. Join in the discussion and learn about their respective artistic inspirations and process. CAM Members: Free, Museum Admission all others.

Bruce Bowman is an architect by profession and a painter whose work often focuses on buildingscapes and interiors.

Fritzi Huber is an active artist and arts educator, conducting workshops in hand papermaking; she is also a teaching artist in CAM’s Museum School.

Aaron Wilcox (http://www.wilcoxclay.com) is a ceramist and professor in the Art and Art History Department at UNC Wilmington.

LITERARY: "Chautauqua" Journal Launch

The editorial team of UNCW's "Chautauqua" literary journal will launch their new issue 14 for 2017, “Invention and Discovery”. The event will feature short selected readings from the journal and the indie acoustic music of C.J. Pendergast. Free and open to the public. Held in collaboration with UNCW Creative Writing Department and Cameron Art Museum. Refreshments available for purchase from CAM Café. Weyerhaeuser Reception Hall


Concert: Ed Stephenson and the Paco Band

Ed Stephenson (https://edwardstephenson.com) and the Paco Band is a Spanish music and Nuevo flamenco ensemble performing original Nuevo Flamenco compositions and music by Paco de Lucia, Ottmar Liebert, and Isaac Albeniz, all in the band’s signature flamenco style. All this with the passion of Flamenco dancer Rachel Meth. Just added: Belly Dancer JiJi will add another dimension of Flamenco and dance to the concert. Making it a show not to miss, with Cat Albanese on percussion and vocals, Graham Drew on bass, Ed Stephenson and Ryan Johnson on guitar. Purchase seats on CAM’s website--where you can watch a video clip of the performers, by phone and at CAM’s Visitor Services desk. Based out of Raleigh, NC Canadian guitarist and Alanna recording artist, Ed (Stefanyshyn) Stephenson’s virtuosity extends throughout the Classical Spanish, Flamenco, and Flamenco Fusion genres. He has performed as a soloist, a member of the North Carolina Guitar Quartet and the Paco Band. The group’s cd “Rosamaria” was released in April 2015.
