“Stealing Fire”-Dance Theatre of DREAMS

Sunday, 8/11/2019
2:00PM-3:00PM
Dance Theatre of DREAMS in collaboration with CAM presents “Stealing Fire”, an interactive dance experience with original choreography inspired by CAM's current teamLab exhibition "Story of the Time when Gods were Everywhere", interpreting each of the installation's elemental symbols through creative motion. As each element comes alive, a story is revealed. The program will include the introduction of the company's members, discussion of the choreographic process including the use of improvisation and symbolism, followed by a performer/audience interactive performance. Q & A with the ten dancers, choreographer, and audience will conclude the performance.

CAM Café MUSIC: Julie Rehder, harp

Thursday, 8/22/2019
6:00PM-8:00PM
Enjoy music by harpist Julie Rehder while you dine at CAM Café, the restaurant serves dinner Thursday evenings from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm and offers half-price bottles of wine. When Wilmington native, Julie Rehder, placed a harp on her shoulder for the first time eight years ago she knew her decades as a pianist and singer prepared her for that moment. "Now I can't be in the same room with my harps without stopping to play them," she says.

Unlike digitized music, the vibrations of the long strings of the harp are felt by those in close proximity, including the musician playing it. The harp is known for creating a peaceful mood for intimate conversations and quiet reflection but can also get toes tapping when traditional Celtic tunes are played.

Reservations are always suggested and appreciated at the Café phone, 910.777.2363.

Julie is a founding member of the Coastal Carolinas Chapter of the American Harp Society and also a Certified Music Practitioner (CMP), having completed the Music for Healing and Transition's extensive two-year training which prepares musicians to play at the bedside of patients with various medical conditions. Recently retired as a marketing professional in the health care industry, Julie is looking forward to sharing her love for the harp with people of all ages at all stages of life.

GROUP SINGING: Wilmington Sacred Harp Singers

Sunday, 8/25/2019
1:30PM-4:00PM
Wilmington Sacred Harp Singers (http://bit.ly/WilmNCSacredHarp) presents a traditional Sacred Harp Singing and invite you to join in the music and raise your voice in song! This dynamic form of a cappella social singing dates back to Colonial America, using a modern reprint of the 1844 songbook "The Sacred Harp".

Sacred Harp and related shape-note styles are the oldest continuous singing traditions in the United States. Surviving as a living tradition in parts of the South, notably Georgia and Alabama, Sacred Harp music has been discovered by new generations of singers who have spread the heritage across North America and to Australia and Europe.

The music is loud, vigorous and intense. It is meant to be sung, not just observed. No previous experience is necessary. 1:30 pm: Instruction for beginners, 2:00 - 4 pm: Group Singing, all. Songbooks provided, beginners welcome! Learn more about Sacred Harp singing at fasola.org.

Free and open to the public. Weyerhaeuser Reception Hall.
