Perry is a multi-instrumentalist specializing in guitar and including hand percussion, oud, mandolin, Native American flute, key boards and vocals. Perry accompanies dance classes at UNCW, facilitates drumming programs for special populations, and teaches lessons from his studio at the Art Works. He plays regularly with Cosmic Groove Lizards, Axiom, Zion, Sea Pans and Narayani.

“Landscapes: 20th Century Masterpieces for Flute and Piano”

Pianist Domonique Launey and flutist Amanda Hoke play masterpieces from the 20th and 21st centuries. Works by Barber, Debussy, Rachmaninoff and Schubert offer a broad landscape of lyricism that evoke brilliant imagery. Purchase seats on CAM’s website, by phone and at CAM’s Visitor Services desk.

Weyerhaeuser Reception Hall. Concert proceeds benefit CAM and NourishNC.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Dr. Amanda Hoke can be heard performing with the flute and guitar ensemble, Cypress Duo. She maintains An active flute teaching studio and is a dedicated public school educator, focusing on early to middle childhood. She currently teaches at Forest Hills Global Elementary School in Wilmington, NC. She was recently awarded the North Carolina Governor’s Discovery Award for her teaching through the Kodaly method. Hoke serves on the board of the Raleigh Flute Association (RAFA) as member-at-large. She is the founder and creative lead of The Flute Examiner (http://thefluteexaminer.com), an online newsletter and publication dedicated to flute and flute pedagogy.

Domonique Launey is a native of Baton Rouge, LA, she has performed throughout the U.S., Europe, and Jamaica as soloist, chamber musician, and collaborator. As featured soloist, she has performed concerti of Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Liszt, Beethoven, Mozart and J.S. Bach. Some of her awards include First Place in the Wideman International Piano Competition, First Place in the University of Texas Concerto competition, and performed in the Van Cliburn Competition. Following a year of performing concert tours in Europe as a Rotary International Scholar and studying with Nadine Deletaille, she returned to Brussels where she was awarded the Gold Medallion for excellence in solo performance. Her studies with mentors have inspired her to remain involved in helping young pianists of all levels.

Emerging Artists Performance-PC Music Festival

Free and open to the public, preregistration suggested for both concerts

The 11th annual Port City Music Festival (www.portcitymusicfestival.org) returns to CAM and for the second year kicks off with a performance by young musicians at 5:00 pm playing a selection of chamber music, prior to the main concert at 7:00 pm.

The main program includes Franz Schubert's "Piano Quintet in A, D. 667" ("Trout Quintet"), and Gian Carlo Menotti's one-act opera "The Telephone" - featuring mezzo-soprano Kyle Engler, and new to the festival, tenor Perry Brisbon joining the Festival’s Music Director and Cellist/Conductor Dr. Stephen Framil.

Always an exciting concert experience which usually sells out at CAM, the festival will continue its innovative programming of combining classical, non-classical, and world music traditions. CAM concert musicians include: Perry Brisbon, tenor, Jim Candido, double bass, Kyle Engler, mezzo-soprano, Stephen Framil, cello and conductor, Raya Framil, soprano, Daniel Lau, piano, Luigi Mazzocchi, violin and Clark Spencer, viola. Seating is limited, preregister on CAM’s website, by phone and at CAM’s Visitor Services desk beginning Tuesday May 28. Weyerhaeuser Reception Hall.
