GROUP SINGING: Wilmington Sacred Harp Singers

Sunday, 4/28/2019
1:30PM-4:00PM
Wilmington Sacred Harp Singers (http://bit.ly/WilmNCSacredHarp) presents a traditional Sacred Harp Singing and invite you to join in the music and raise your voice in song! This dynamic form of a cappella social singing dates back to Colonial America, using a modern reprint of the 1844 songbook "The Sacred Harp". Sacred Harp and related shape-note styles are the oldest continuous singing traditions in the United States. Surviving as a living tradition in parts of the South, notably Georgia and Alabama, Sacred Harp music has been discovered by new generations of singers who have spread the heritage across North America and to Australia and Europe.

The music is loud, vigorous and intense. It is meant to be sung, not just observed. No previous experience is necessary. 1:30 pm: Instruction for beginners, 2:00 - 4 pm: Group Singing, all. Songbooks provided, beginners welcome! Learn more about Sacred Harp singing at fasola.org.

Free and open to the public. Weyerhaeuser Reception Hall.

Thursday, 5/2/2019
6:30PM-7:45PM
CONCERTS @ CAM series: Mark Teachey – The Music of Glen Campbell & Jim Croce

Come listen and sing along with Mark Teachey (http://www.markteacheymusic.com), a favorite and popular area performer, as he shares the songs, and stories of the men behind the music. Some of the songs Mark will perform include Croce’s “Time In A Bottle”, “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown”, and “Operator” and Campbell’s “By The Time I Get To Phoenix”, “Rhinestone Cowboy”, and “Wichita Lineman”.

Mark Teachey grew up in the 1970’s listening to and learning to play Croce’s and Campbell’s music, and his great respect for the music shines through in performance. His clear, clean finger picking guitar style is reminiscent of Croce’s, and perfectly complements Mark's pure, nuanced, melodic tenor vocals. Invite family and friends to come enjoy an evening with Mark Teachey as he pays tribute to these wonderful artists, who have touched the lives of millions all over the world.

Purchase seats on CAM’s website: www.cameronartmuseum.org, by phone, and at CAM’s Visitor Services desk. CAM Members and Students with valid ID: $12.00, Non-Members: $17.00. Weyerhaeuser Reception Hall.

CAM Café: Julie Rehder, harp

Thursday, 5/9/2019
6:00PM-8:00PM
CAM Café MUSIC: Enjoy music by harpist Julie Rehder while you dine. The restaurant serves dinner Thursday evenings from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm and offers half-price bottles of wine all day Thursday.

When Wilmington native, Julie Rehder, placed a harp on her shoulder for the first time eight years ago she knew her decades as a pianist and singer prepared her for that moment. "Now I can't be in the same room with my harps without stopping to play them," she says. Unlike digitized music, the vibrations of the long strings of the harp are felt by those in close proximity, including the musician playing it. The harp is known for creating a peaceful mood for intimate conversations and quiet reflection but can also get toes tapping when traditional Celtic tunes are played.

Reservations are always suggested and appreciated at the Café phone, 910.777.2363.
