Don't miss Live@CAM: Josh Youse at CAM Cafe. Josh Youse is an instrumental musician based out of Wilmington, NC. He grew up in rural Pennsylvania, the son of a radio DJ who instilled in Josh a deep love for music. A self-taught guitarist, his musical stylings evolved from listening to classic vinyl records and learning to improvise melodies. He initially started out playing bass guitar and often incorporates several other percussive instruments into his performances. Josh’s actual degree is in Adventure Education Leadership and Wilderness Therapy and his original songs are often inspired by his extensive outdoor adventures and travels. Community Lantern Project 2020

Participants of all ages are invited to create a silhouette to grace this year’s Community Lantern. Choose your own profile or outline the features of someone dear and cut the image from black paper. Visit CAM on Saturday, November 7, where paper guru Fritzi Huber will be demonstrating and assisting with the cutting of your silhouette or create your silhouette at home with your own supplies (finished size no larger than 5” x 8”) and drop off your silhouette at CAM’s Front Desk by 5pm on Saturday, November 7. A team of volunteers will arrange the profiles to create a community of portraits and shadows on the finished lantern. Like years before, the Community Lantern will be displayed in Illuminations 2020 which opens November 20.

Don't miss Come Hear NC: Benny Hill. This concert is part of CAM's Come Hear NC series, funded in part by the North Carolina Arts Council and AARP North Carolina. Benny Hill is steeped in the tradition of many of the past greats including Julian ‘Cannonball’ Adderley, Jackie McLean, Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane and Charlie Parker. His improvisations on the Alto Saxophone are reminiscent of these greats, yet he has a distinct style and voice of his own. Benny is a true crowd-pleaser and never fails to raise excitement and enthusiasm while on stage. This concert will also be livestreamed on CAM's Facebook page and YouTube channel. Virtual event - Suffrage and Song: "She's Good Enough to Vote without You" with Michael Lasser.
The songs that were written between 1900 and 1920 tell the story of the changing attitudes of women in our society. Take a walk through the popular music of the era and hear how artists like Irving Berlin and others composed messages of suffrage for song and dance.
Guest presenter Michael Lasser is the author of books on American songs, and host of the nationally syndicated public radio show, Fascinatin’ Rhythm.

While the art world was starting to turn towards Impressionism and Modernism, Evelyn de Morgan (1855-1919) found inspiration in the paintings of 15th century Florence, including Botticelli. While she joined other Pre-Raphaelite artists in looking at the past for inspiration, she used that style to convey her very modern ideas. In this class, we'll look at how she used ancient stories, like those of Helen, Cassandra, and Queen Eleanor, to communicate her Feminist ideas.

Illumination 2020

Friday, November 20 10 am – 7:30 pm, with awards announced after 5:00 pm
Visit CAM to view the latest installation of Illumination, an exhibition of artist-made lanterns. This year artists were asked to look within and create light sculptures that explore what the concept of light means to them personally. CAM received over 50 submissions, from artists across the country and as far away as Canada. Three awards, picked by a panel of community judges, will be announced after 5:00 pm. This exhibition will be on view until January 10, 2021.

Clyde’s Holiday By The Sea

$20 per Family
Decorate a critter for CAM’s annual holiday display from home or at home. Registration includes a Clyde Critter, an art kit and a designated socially distant area to work. ‘Clyde’s Holiday by the Sea’ kits will also be available so families have the option of taking part from home. You can pick up your kits between November 3rd and November 13th during regular museum hours. Completed critters need to be returned by November 21st.
