JAZZ: Al Strong Quintet

Al Strong (http://alstrongmusic.com) wowed the audience with his driving jazz during the 2015-16 season and is back by popular demand. Steeped in jazz, Strong (Trumpet/Flugelhorn/Effects) takes the stage with Sean Mason on Keyboard, Alan Thompson on Saxophone, Butler Knowles on Bass and Jeremy “Bean” Clemons on Drums for an exciting evening of music. Purchase seats on CAM’s website, by phone and at CAM’s Visitor Services desk CAM & CFJS Members: $12.00, Non-members: $20.00, $10.00 for students with valid college ID (tax and fees not included).

Al Strong is a co-founder of the Durham-based jazz presenting non-profit The Art of Cool Project (http://theartofcoolproject.com/) which presents the annual Art of Cool Festival (http://aocfestival.org).

Presented by Cameron Art Museum and the Cape Fear Jazz Society (CJFS, www.capefearjazzsociety.org. Hear musicians from Wilmington and around the state performing a range of jazz genres in an intimate “close up and personal” performance setting for your listening pleasure.

"STATE OF THE ART" COMMUNITY FREE DAY

Bring your family and friends to enjoy a day at your museum! This free community day unveils "State of the Art /Art of the State" and view the new photography exhibit "Created by Light" (on view through February 11, 2018). Start the day enjoying the music of LaCi with brunch at CAM Café (10:00 am – 2:00 pm, reservations suggested, call: 910.777.2363).

Join us at 2:30 pm for a Reading and Book Signing with author Lauren Collins. A Wilmington native, Lauren Collins (http://laurenzcollins.com) became a staff writer for "The New Yorker" in 2008. She has covered such luminaries as Michelle Obama, Versace, Banksy, and chef April Bloomfield. Based in Paris since 2010, she is the author of "When in French: Love in a Second Language" from which she will read excerpts and sign books available for purchase from CAM’s Museum Shop. Weyerhaeuser Reception Hall.

Explore the museum’s Shop, outdoor art and grounds. Free and open to the public, donations appreciated

CONCERTS @ CAM: UNCW and Friends

Enjoy a concert ranging from Beethoven, Bizet, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff to popular song, when piano students of Dr. Barry Salwen and voice students of Nancy King come together for a colorful program of piano and vocal favorites. The afternoon showcases the talent of UNC Wilmington’s superb music department; come listen and show support for the young musicians in our community. The singers will be accompanied by Bettsy Curtis. Held in collaboration with UNCW’s Department of Music.
